We strive to be mindful of how our business decisions effect the local community. We know that our customers support this philosophy as well.
Our prices are fair and comparable to those you will find anywhere else.
We stock our store with backpacking, hiking, camping, swimming and other outdoor gear with the locals in mind.
We are actively involved in community activities and between us serve on the boards of Main Street, Jumping Mouse Children’s Center, Rat Island Rowing Club and Rotary International.

Store History
Sport Townsend originated as the Trailhead, a very small outdoor oriented business that occupied a small shared space on a side street in Port Townsend. In
January of 1991 the store moved to its current Water Street location.
A contest was held to rename the store and Sport Townsend was born.
The store was owned by a retired math teacher and a leader of bicycle tours, both of whom have since retired.
In 1995 Susan Jacob was hired as the general manager and has been with the store ever since.
She recently purchased Sport Townsend.
This store has evolved over the years to become Port Townsend's premier place to shop for all things outdoors.
About Our Store
We take pride in the fact that we have been around for 20 years. Sport Townsend has been and will continue to be Port Townsend’s connection for all things outdoor. We look forward to serving the Olympic Peninsula and it’s a visitors for many more years to come.

Our fabulous staff are outdoors enthusiasts too! Between us we are kayaking, backpacking, mountain biking, running, and travelling veterans. We are here to help you with anything that you need... even if it is just to talk about how much you like a particular stove, or a certain trail! Come on in and swap tales with us!
Susan Jacob
OWNER
Susan was born and raised in the Midwest and did not discover the Olympic Peninsula until the late 1980's when she moved here to work for a magazine. The job only lasted 6 months, but she was so taken with the beauty of the Northwest she did everything she could to remain here. She found her way to Sport Townsend in 1995, was hired as their general manager, and recently purchased the store.
Jerien Binney
Jerien has lived on the Olympic Peninsula for 30 years. She loves everything about the outdoors and has hiked all over the Olympics. She is a skier, hiker, kayaker, and horseback rider. Jerien joined Sport Townsend as a sales associate in June 2010.
Gary Lockwood
Hi my name is Gary and I have been an adventurer most of my life. I have been a commercial fisherman, a guide and a professional sled dog racer. , I have backpacked and mountain climbed in the US and Canada, I have spent a winter in the Yukon and in the jungles of Mexico. I've canoed and kayaked on rivers, lakes and the ocean..I hike, walk, bike and motorcycle ride. And I enjoy serving and helping the public with their outdoor needs.
